Our Mission & Vision: Building Robots, Shaping Futures

Welcome to Project 691 Robotics! We are more than just a team that builds world-class robots; we are a dedicated, student-led, and mentor-guided program committed to promoting STEM in an engaging high school environment. Our vision is to cultivate essential life skills—including teamwork, self-confidence, leadership, and Gracious Professionalism—while fostering the diversity and creativity necessary to inspire the next generation of innovators in our society. Join us to experience the ultimate challenge: building a successful team and a championship robot.

Unique learning experiences

All students on Project 691 Robotics participate in learning experiences that reflect:

Combatting Failure: Students learn to be model engineers by working to combat failure with no experience, engaging in hands-on troubleshooting, testing, and debugging of complex code and mechanical issues through trial and error.

Development of Soft Skills: Students gain essential “soft skills” like teamwork, communication, leadership, and self-confidence by explaining complex technical concepts, presenting project results to judges and the community, and working collaboratively in a goal-oriented environment.

Fundraising and Branding: The team is challenged to manage the non-technical aspects of running a successful team, including raising funds (as robots can cost upwards of $5,000) and designing a team “brand” and conducting community outreach.

Sub-Teams and Roles (The “What I Can Do”)

Time Commitment and Schedule (Setting Expectations)

Have questions about our team? Here are some commonly asked questions and their answers.

What Grade do I have to be in to join the team?

To join the team you need to be in grades 9-12. We also encourage parents to help the team with their knowledge and experience.

Do I have to attend West Ranch?

No. Our club is based in West Ranch but you don’t need to be from the school. Anyone is allowed to join our team and they do not need to be from West Ranch specifically. Keep in mind that you must be able to travel to West Ranch frequently for team meetings.

What is FRC?

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology is an international youth organization that operates the FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Lego League Jr., FIRST LEGO League Jr. Discovery Edition, and FIRST Tech Challenge competitions FRC is a competition that we compete in. More information can be found at Firstinspires.org

How can I get involved on the team as a parent?

Our team needs the help of parents who can share their experience in a multitude of fields from engineering to business. Parents are allowed to come to every meeting and help out or learn how the club works. With the help of parents like you, we are able to run our club and be a successful robotics team. If you are interested getting involved with the team please visit our volunteer page.

Is there a registration fee to join the team?

There is no mandatory registration fee to join Project 691 Robotics. However, there is a recommended $500 donation to the team. This donation helps the team continue building amazing robots and order parts. The donation can be given through the West Ranch Web store on our donation page.

I just joined and have no prior experience with electrical or mechanical parts of the design process. What can I do?

For many people, joining robotics is the first time they have ever started designing or working with various fields required to build a well functioning robot. However, there is no reason to worry. Throughout the year, there will be multiple workshops for new members to learn the skills necessary to excel and achieve their full potential.
